Fairytales & Feelings
Fairytales and Feelings is a series of parent/ child interactive storytelling workshops where families interact with their family unit about emotions in a safe, play-based environment. Each program focuses on a different emotion and tools to recognize, identify, understand and manage those emotions.
Grumpy Gus helps children recognize they are not their moods. They learn to ask themselves when feeling grumpy, “Am I tired? Am I hungry? Do I have a problem to solve? If the answer is no, I can change my mind.”
Parents and children explore when they feel grumpy leverage imaginations to address the problems and help one another.
Additional programs include: CinderSilly, (Finding the fun when doing hard things), Queen of Anger, Disappointment Troll, and Tries a-lot – focused on learning frustration.
In one program about fear, a mom and her 7 year old daughter were in their huddle talking about their feelings when the child revealed she had been experiencing this feeling on the playground after school. During this Friday afternoon session, older students would coax her to a hidden part of the yard where they played a game of choking her – weekly. This had been going on for months. It took our class for the child to feel safe to reveal her experience to her mother. Fairytales and Feelings is truly a program like no other.
